“…We had barely landed on the runway in Funchal when my wife commented that already it reminded her of a Hawaiian island, with its waving palm trees, temperate climate and abundant sunshine. (Year-round average temperature is about 80 degrees.) The airport is fairly small but modern and is served by several airlines.

[dropcap1]A[/dropcap1] front cover article at the local newspaper “Jornal da Madeira” indicated this 15 October that Santa Cruz City Hall requested suspension of de PDM, so that licences and formal procedures, from local authorities can be finished as soon as possible.
PDM its called in English, Municipal Director Plan. Design as a component of the Municipality territory plan, it’s a regulator document of the planning and spatial order of any municipal territory in Portugal.
PDM plans are elaborated by City Hall, and must be approved by local assembly.
At the document there can be found the definition of territory organization, were is established it’s spatial referrals, uses for the soil and municipally uses, through classes and categories off land, urban connections of several kinds as transports, equipment’s, captions, communications,water treatments and supply.
PDM plan also indicate rules and social rights (population) of use as weal as construction limitations and landscape harmonization.
This procedure will grant the Local Municipality the permission to build Portinho Resort, and investment project of 70 Millions Euros.
The Government ad already give green light to the project, and now, with the suspension of the plan, the development it’s closer to start it’s constructions phase.
José Alberto Gonçalves, President of Santa Cruz Municipality is thrilled with this opportunity to the local community. An amazing 5 star project that will value all the area and that will provide economic growth, with new jobs offers and tourist investment.
Final project meetings are now being held between the Mayor and Interpatium project and engineering teams, so that all the harmonization to the landscape and public access to beach is guaranteed.
According to the Mayor, the New PDM for the Portinho area will ready at the beginning of 2012, were all the missing bureaucracy will be dispatched. Both the promoter and the Mayor points the second half of 2012 for the start of constructions.

Madeira Islands harbour has had a wonderful year. Last year the number of Cruise Ships rise 7%. Madeira Islands is one of the most interesting Cruise Ships Hubs at the Atlantic, moving 495 323 tourists in 2010. This year the growth is estimated to pass 2010 numbers reaching the 2 digits growth.
Regarding our Captain Mickey, it’s already confirmed that the new ship, Disney Fantasy will pass at Madeira at the inaugural trip.
